Travel Diary : In the heart of the Hachemite Kingdom: Jordan

Jordan, I was thinking that I would have never the occasion to leave the country until this morning. I am very sorry to not having given news to you for one month but the explanation of this prolongs stay will be soon the subject of a forthcoming article.
Today, we will concentrate on a description of Jordan, a country where I indeed stayed 6 weeks.
I entered Jordan by North, by Syria and my first stop was indeed to have a little stay in the capital, Amman. For me, Amman doesn't have anything frankly marvellous, this is rather a business-city which mainly makes live the Jordanian economy. Shortly, nothing transcendent for a tourist like me.
However here is a panorama of the city taken from the top of the citadel of Amman

Yes, I think I was right to extirpate as fast as possible to this city to discover the fabulous other sites of Jordan. It is said here that Jordan is a ground of desert. Thus, it is true that travelling in the interior of the country enables you to have access to the impressive landscape sights of the desert. About myself, I appreciates much the country for this reason in particular.
So I have started the descent of the country towards the South and for this way, there are two roads: the Desert Highway and the Kings Highway.
I started with the Desert Highway. The principal reason is that this one is going along the Dead Sea.
You have perhaps already heard about the Dead Sea. This sea has a rate of salinity very superior to the normal. Yes, while making an average of the rates of salinity of the seas of the world, we can find approximately a rate of 5% of salt in the water. The Dead Sea has simply a rate reaching 25% in some place. I can say to you that having try to taste the water of this sea (my rate of smartivety didn't reach 5% this time) that the taste is extremely strong.
The Dead Sea is universally known because it is the lowest place of the planet (417 meters below the sea level) and especially, it is possible to float inside!
Yes, its rate of salinity allows it and I didn't fail to test this natural curiosity...

... if I seem to howl on this photograph, it is that I omitted the fact that I had a little cut on my skin... and I can promise to you that the salt (enough present at this time) really didn't have arranges the things (my rate of smartivety at this moment reached a maximum of 2%).
To crown the whole, it was impossible for me to take a shower during the 3 days following this bath... but this is another story!
Along this sea however, there is a considerable number of tomato farmers. I spent 3 days there to go to meet the inhabitants of this area and to see that the majority of these people live under very poor conditions. Here, it is not rare to see families living in tents of 20 square meters. However those people keep on smiling and still have this joy to live which honor them.

And very often I get invited to eat and sleep!

I that case, I really can say that they nourish me and host me (I insist on the word "nourish")

Jordan is, like Syria, a country extremely hospitable. The surprise of Syria was done, it is true that I omitted to mention it. Likewise, we really feel safe in the country and finally feel good there.
It is however easier to travel here as a man. Knowing that Moslem is the main religion, Jordan (just like Syria) grants a bigger freedom for the people of male sex. The women are going out not very often and most of the time they are veiled.
Even the famous doll "Fula", the local Barbie, is getting dressed when she is going out!

From the Dead Sea, I went towards the pearl of Jordan, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World, I want of course talk about the site of Petra.
This site is located in an exceptional natural site, again the photographs will talk better about it than a long explanation. We finds there a huge number of buildings made in the rock, some dating from the VIIIth century before JC. The arrival in the site is impressive. During approximately 1 kilometer, you walk in a kind of canyon and at the end of this one, you can see the most known monument of the site: The Khazneh

The Khazneh, you perhaps already saw it in several adaptations in the cinema (Indiana Jones, Ali Baba) but also in some Comics (we can find it in the adventures of Tintin in the country of the Black gold). The second most known edifice of the site is the Monastery of Deir which is even larger than Khazneh. I purpose this photograph of Deir to you because we can imagine the size of the monument by comparing it with the tourists being at the entrance.

I have been very impressed by the various colors in the different hours of the day. The sunlight shines on the rocks and the mountains and... I let you admire the photographs

Yes, Petra is splendid and it is undoubtedly the most beautiful place which I had the chance to see so fart. But like all good things has an end, I have to move towards my next destination at the end of the visit. I went to Aqaba, which is the only harbour city of Jordan. Aqaba borders the Red Sea and it is said that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world to make Scuba Diving.
I cannot of course confirm that because I don't have seen all the seas and oceans of the world. On the other hand, it is true that the sea is splendid and that I was lucky to see fishes of every forms, every colors and I even could see a turtle in his natural environment.
Let's go for the diving hitch-hiking

The beach is a place where we come in family in Jordan, and especially the week end. Thus Friday and Saturdays (yes, the days of weekend are different than in France because Friday is the Day of the prayer), the families come to spend the day to the beach and eat meat cooked with the barbecue, smokes the narguile...
The week-end, the family is going to the beach in Jordan

In Aqaba, I indeed stayed one moth, the explanation in a next news.
Come on, I give you some clue... in picture of course!

See you very soon
